Normanhurst Appointment

Is this your first visit to us? No worries

Our friendly team at Normanhurst Dental will give you a warm welcome and make sure you feel comfortable all through your appointment. We’re always happy to answer any questions you have about our treatments and payment options.

While every appointment is different to personally suit our individual patients’ needs, here is a general overview of what to expect during your first appointment.

Fill out a patient registration form

To make sure we provide you with the best possible dental care, it’s important that we have a complete profile of your general and dental health. As a new patient, we’ll provide you with a patient registration form to complete while you’re waiting to see your dentist.

This short questionnaire helps our team to know about any current health issues, any medication or any procedures you’ve had undergone in the past. If you need any assistance completing the form, please don’t hesitate to ask one of our staff.

The personal information is kept strictly confidential and we will never divulge any information to anyone without your permission.

What to expect during my appointment?

In the dental surgery, getting rid of any pain is our first priority. During your appointment, we will discuss any concerns you have about your teeth, gums or anything else related to your oral health or appearance.

The appointment will normally involve following four steps:-
1. Comprehensive oral health exam

We’ll make sure you’re comfortable in the chair and begin a comprehensive examination to assess the condition of your mouth. Low dose digital x-rays will be taken if necessary as well as digital intra-oral photos (photos of inside your mouth) to help you understand any areas of concern.

2. Cleaning and scaling your teeth

After thoroughly checking the condition of your teeth and gums, a scale and clean is performed to remove plaque and tartar from the teeth. A topical fluoride application is done that helps to protect the teeth against plaque, in combination with a good daily oral care routine. Your general oral health and condition will be discussed as well as dietary advice and brushing and cleaning techniques to increase your level of education.

3. Itero Scan

We use the latest Itero scanner to make a scan of your teeth to assess for any dental problems you may have to be visualised. These scan records allow us to track changes to your teeth on your recalls.

4. Creating your personalised treatment plan

Your dentist will consult with you to address any concerns, needs or desires you may have. You will be provided with a personalised treatment plan that takes into consideration your needs, time constraints and financial ability.

What’s next?

After your appointment, our reception staff can help you to manage payment, make claims on your health insurance and arrange follow-up appointments if you need them.

If you don’t need to come in for a treatment or consultation, we recommend you make an appointment for your next routine check-up in no later than six months’ time. Regular appointments give your dentist the best chance of catching oral health problems at an early stage before they become serious.
